UPGRADING THE BIOS If you have received a floppy disk with the customer letter from Dell to upgrade the basic input/output system (BIOS) which will enhance the computer's power management capabilities, please proceed to step 1. The upgrade should only take a couple of minutes. If you have not yet received the customer letter with the BIOS floppy diskettes, You can download the BIOS by clicking on the following links: - If you have an Inspiron 5000 computer, insert the Inspiron 5000 BIOS disk into the floppy drive. If you have an Inspiron 5000e computer, insert the Inspiron 5000e BIOS disk into the floppy drive.
- Connect the computer to an electrical outlet.
NOTICE : Do not interrupt the BIOS upgrade program once it starts. Interrupting the program by pressing the power button or disconnecting it from the electrical outlet can make the computer unusable. - Turn on the computer and follow the instructions on the screen.
- When the upgrade is complete, the computer reboots automatically. Remove the disk from the floppy drive as the computer reboots.
If you do not remove the disk before the computer reboots, the following message appears: PhoenixPhlash Error File does not contain different version of BIOS ROM image PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT Remove the disk from the floppy drive and press any key to reboot.
